Julissa is the Principal/Owner of j.design.studio, a planning and design firm located in San Diego, California.  She is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California with over 25 years of years of building industry experience specializing in commercial planning and design, ADA compliance, and building code regulatory adherence.

Julissa’s expert knowledge and experience has led her to the current leadership role of President of the Board for the International Code Council San Diego (ICC SD) Chapter.  This board position is an elected seat, voted in by local building officials, architects, designers, and building industry leaders. Julissa has spearheaded ICC SD’s mission of promoting uniformity and consistency in the application of building codes and the promotion of public health and safety through education and training programs, therefore increasing public awareness ultimately enhancing the quality of life in the San Diego region. In addition, Julissa chairs ICC SD’s Accessibility Committee, chairs ICC SD’s Educational Committee, and is a board member on the California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC).

Before establishing j.design.studio in 2012, Julissa worked as a project manager and designer for several local well known commercial planning and design firms after completing her education from the Design Institute of San Diego. Since establishing j.design.studio, Julissa has led from concept to completion, a wide variety of commercial, medical, and residential projects throughout Southern California and the United States to include commercial, corporate, tenant improvement, change in use, code violations remediations, residential expansions/remodels, medical and dental offices, clinics, outpatient facilities, biotech, industrial, restaurant, ADU’s, car dealerships, and retail. With an attention to detail and a focus on ADA and building code compliance, staying within budget, and meeting timelines, Julissa strives for creating environmentally conscious spaces that exceed expectations while providing her clients with the highest level of service and exceptional creative design.
